Mental Health and Gen Z

Gen Z these days love throwing around the word ‘depression’. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes it could be true, and with the way the world is right now, you may very well have depression. But not every individual in this planet has depression. Not every individual in this planet has chronic mental illnesses and needs therapy.

Due to the development in technology, we have the whole world in our hands through our phones. Although this is very helpful, self diagnosing and labelling yourself as something you’re not, and joining a community where people feed your beliefs, is one of the greatest negatives. A child who cries all day as his parents didn’t get him ice cream, claims he has depression. This is not an exaggeration, it is just how bad the situation is.

So rather, if you feel you’re mentally ill, or have a problem, try to talk about it with people you trust, take their advice, rewire your brain and improve. This is how our parents and those before us dealt with it. Running to therapy isn’t a sign of weakness at all, but doing it for trivial things is stupidity.

Gen Z these days claim that they have depression, and use that as an excuse to not improve or not change. That shouldn’t be the case. As a lot of bad things are said about our generation, let’s join together and try to do better.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. - Isaiah 41:10
