How does the mind of youth work?

Individuals who belong in the ages from 18-25 go through much trials and tribulations during this period. They are young adults, who have barely matured and are still healing from their teenage years. These innocent beings will now have to face making huge decisions, decisions which will set out the path of their entire life. These decisions include selecting the right career path, spouse, and other priorities. I mean these are big big decisions. And the downside, these are the years when these individuals are allowed face the world on their own. Most parents let their kids belonging to these age groups to be more independent and make their own decisions. This makes it even harder for them. There is no rule book to define what’s wrong and what’s right. Life is a book and they have sole custody of the pen now, and it can be both exciting and scary.

So, with much freedom comes much mistakes as well. And much mistakes should not be made in making life decisions. This is what makes it even harder. The youth have a lot of voices all around, guiding them and telling them what to do. There’s something that friends say, there’s what your parents say, relatives, random people on the street, and what not. To be able to discern what’s right and wrong, what to learn and what to forget, can be very difficult. It can be very stressful and exhausting, that one may even go in search of an escape from reality. That is precisely why most individuals resort to usage of substances, or in severe cases, suicide. Youth goes through so much, and most individuals, if they were well pruned in their teenagers, they become lukewarm- that is, they are not able to choose between the filthy joys that the world gives and being good. They at the end resort to being 50/50 of each, which in my opinion is worse than either.

As an adult you have experience, as a child you’re experiencing. But as a young adult you’re only slowly putting your experiences into action. You’re slowly learning how to walk on your own, without someone else holding your hand. Having a 100 voices to tell you how to walk, or scold you when you fall down or give you a walking stick already, will destroy your growth. The fear of missing out is what drives these individuals. These years are deemed as the “best years of one’s life”. Well you know what? Just because these are someone’s best years of their life, doesn’t mean it has to be yours. You’re still learning, you’re still growing. Go easy on yourself. Good triumphs evil always. Choosing good will never have you miss out on anything. And remember, it always gets better.
